Like at the end of Indiana Jones when the Ark is opened and it melts the faces of those who look into it, the SBS Radio Archive is full of knowledge so powerful it can only be trusted to a select few.

You dear listener are one of those few. Lawrence is bringing an episode from the vaults today and speaks with SBS Legend Chad Dolan.

Lawrence is joined by Chad Dolan today. Chad is the latest and greatest member of the Academy team and gives us an introduction as to who he is.

You can find Chad on Instagram: @ChadDolan and Snapchat: @ChadDolan and on Twitter: @MioDolan

Hold onto your earphones and keep children well clear. This episode features strong language and stronger opinions.

Lawrence and Patrick are here today with the debut episode of Fireside Rants.

The guys are a bit rattled as someone has come into the Eat, Train, Progress Facebook page and been less than brilliant about their attitude. As such Patrick isn't a happy boy.

In this episode, the two take turns to take a swing at a few of their pet peeves online -Functional Patterns, Personal Trainers claiming that they can eliminate pain, and irresponsible advice about medication all receive a lashing in this episode. In the emotional outpour, the two get into the habit of talking over each other making timestamping this episode a bit more difficult.

As an added bonus, though, there is a point where Patrick gets so annoyed he don't talk his words so good no more.

While you're listening you can find SBS on Instagram and Snapchat @ShredByScience, the Judd is @LozJudd on Snapchat and @SBS_Lawrence on Instagram.

A Fireside Chat from the archives this fine Friday as Lawrence and Patrick dust off the vinyl and delicately place the needle on this classic.

Please note that as this is a rebroadcast some dates are mentioned in this episode that are now out of date.

These two are frightful, but the fire is so delightful. Welcome to another Fireside Chat with Lawrence and Patrick.

Talking about Rates of Weight Loss the two as ever end up on some wonderful tangents that are almost related to the topic this time.

If you're around Bath this weekend then shout on social media, there's rumblings of a potential SBS Radio meet up!

While you're listening you can find SBS on Instagram and Snapchat @ShredByScience and while you're at it you can find the Judd on @LozJudd.

Today Lawrence is looking at a big question. What does it actually take to become a successful personal trainer?

From the outside it looks easy. Work when you want and make a packet just showing people what to lift or what cardio machines to run. The reality couldn't be further from the truth.

So what do you need to do?

0508: Hard, smart work.

0629: Continued professional development.

0752: Get good at personal training first.

0922: Have a client centred focus.

1039: People skills.

1152: View your first few years as an apprenticeship.

Now, if you're thinking about starting your journey to becoming a PT, what should you do?

1310: Start helping.

1350: Get yourself qualified.

1431: Invest in learning.

1447: Start loving the process.

0351: What are your trouble shooting steps when a lift has plateaued for someone who has the goal of gaining strength?

1033: Additionally, what are some common mistakes you see when people design their own programmes?

1932: What are some things to do when I've plateaued? I've lost 50lbs, but I'm stuck at 295lbs.

2434: Can you discuss the pros and cons of taking a flexible approach to training and dieting?

2937: Where do you see technology, wearable or otherwise, going in relation to the fitness industry?

05:20: Do you have a set plan for the year? Do you give yourself a periodisation schedule?

08:25: Is there a point at which someone powerlifting should consider a training block focused on hypertrophy?

12:50: How do you approach powerlifting meets in terms of attempt selection for your clients?

12:59: How does this differ to your own approach?

13:34: Do you change based on the individual client?

13:50: How do you approach a meet if you won't physically be there?

31:47: Which of the main variations of lifts do you prefer for improving strength or breaking a plateau?
